Alcohol, Other Drug Use AND ADDICTION THERAPY
You continue to be pre-occupied with planning, using and recovering.
Some days using is on your mind much of the day. You feel trapped and unable to stop the cycle.
You would love to feel more in control and focused. You have tried different strategies to cut down or quit but sooner or later you end up where you began.
Now you are ready to seek professional help
You are looking for a team that gets it, and can help you find freedom from the cycle of use of alcohol, other drugs or process addictions, and behaviors.
You want to feel in control, content and satisfied. You have even had some success but when it comes to sustaining that momentum you feel discouraged, skeptical and unsure.
It was not always like this. Using did not always take up this much space and resources in your life. It started out casually and without consequences. It used to take your mind off things.
But over time it started spilling into your life more and more, affecting life and your plans, how and when you interact with people, hobbies and even work. It’s like someone else is in the driver’s seat of your life now. You never thought this would take over your life to this degree.

What to expect from alcohol, substance use and addiction therapy at Lotus
Counseling for addictions and compulsive use of substances and behaviors such as compulsive pornography use is intended to help you let go of coping strategies that have not worked long term. We are here to help you assess and explore cutting down and harm reduction as well as sobriety. Our approach is highly individualized. We don’t believe in “one size fits all”. As for addictions, we know that nobody sets out to develop an addiction. We know that some of us are more prone to compulsive use of behaviors and development of addictions. This is influenced by our genetics, environment, trauma history, other mental health concerns among other factors. Our team is here to help you unpack these layers, provide effective, evidence-based strategies, and walk with you as you clarify and pursue a life that is important to you. Whether you hope to spend more quality time with friends and family, get back to places and things you are passionate about or living life with contentment, clarity, focus, and joy, we walk with you, allowing small steps pave the way to freedom and recovery.
We do what works
We use evidence-based treatment approaches informed by the best science available and what research and direct practice have shown to be effective.
This includes mindfulness-based cognitive behavioral therapies such as Dialectical Behavioral Therapy and Acceptance and Commitment Therapy. We utilize Motivational Interviewing helping clients navigate change. We incorporate 12 step work when applicable.
In our experience, alcohol, substance use and addictions are often just a tip of an iceberg. We pay close attention to genetics, environment, other mental health concerns, history of trauma, relationships, and more.
Most clients seeking help with substance use and addiction concerns are seen weekly for a 55 min session each week. For those who need more intensive work, we meet twice per week or refer out to a higher level of care. Clients who have been in therapy before and are coming for recovery maintenance can quickly start scheduling meetings every other week. Thoughtful assessment and communication help us determine the best course of treatment for you. If your needs change so does treatment planning.
We will work with you to assess your history including your relationship with substances and behaviors. We will set goals and help you reach them on your journey to a richer, more satisfying life.
We offer a safe, nonjudgmental space and supportive, compassionate care. We are passionate about the treatment of addictions and compulsive behaviors.
